Boralex inc. and Six Nations Group marked an important milestone with the official inauguration of the Hagersville Battery Energy Storage Park, Canada’s largest operating battery energy storage facility. The event brought together Indigenous partners, community members, elected officials, industry representatives and key stakeholders to celebrate the successful delivery of a landmark project for Ontario’s electricity system.
The on-site ceremony highlighted the strength of the long-standing partnership between Boralex and Six Nations Group as well as the collective effort that made Hagersville possible. This collaboration continues to grow, notably with the Oxford Battery Energy Storage project currently under construction, another co-developed initiative that reflects the shared long-term vision of the partners.
The event opened with a Thanksgiving Address led by representatives of Six Nations of the Grand River, grounding the inauguration in respect, collaboration and shared purpose.
Remarks were delivered by Sherri‑Lyn Hill, Elected Chief of Six Nations of the Grand River, Matt Jamieson, President and CEO of Six Nations Group, Patrick Decostre, President and CEO of Boralex, Robin Deveaux, Executive Vice President and General Manager, North America, Boralex, and Lesley Gallinger, President and CEO of the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), along with representatives from Haldimand County and the provincial energy sector, who acknowledged the project’s importance for the region and for Ontario’s energy transition.
The ceremony concluded with an official ribbon cutting, symbolically marking the beginning of long-term operations at the Hagersville facility. Guests were then invited to participate in a guided site tour, offering a closer look at the installations and a deeper understanding of the project’s scale, technology and strategic role within Ontario’s electricity system.
Commissioned in February 2026, the 300 MW / 1,200 MWh Hagersville Battery Energy Storage Park was co-developed by Boralex and Six Nations Group and is now the largest operating battery storage facility in Canada. The project was recently recognized as “Innovative Clean Energy Project of the Year” by the Canadian Renewable Energy Association (CanREA), underscoring its leadership and contribution to advancing large-scale energy storage in the country.
As a large-scale storage asset, Hagersville plays a critical role in strengthening grid reliability, supporting the integration of renewable energy and meeting Ontario’s growing electricity needs identified by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). With its ability to deliver up to four hours of continuous power at full capacity, the facility enhances system flexibility during periods of peak demand.
Throughout development, construction and now operation, health and safety remained a top priority, guiding all activities on site. The project also prioritized local economic benefits, including the involvement of A6N General Partnerships, majority-owned by Six Nations Group, to deliver key civil works, further strengthening Indigenous participation and local employment.
With the inauguration of Hagersville and the recent commissioning of the Sanjgon Battery Energy Storage Facility, Boralex is now Canada’s largest battery storage operator, reinforcing its leadership in building the energy infrastructure needed to support a reliable, resilient and decarbonized power system.
