A Major Wind Project for Québec
With its 34 Vestas V162 turbines rated at 6 MW — the most powerful ever installed in Québec — the Apuiat Wind Farm represents:
- The first national energy project led by the Innu Nation, and the first wind farm on the Côte-Nord
- The first major wind project commissioned in Québec since 2018
- The first project developed by Boralex in North America since 2019
Among the Most Powerful Turbines in the Country
Each turbine contributes to strengthening Québec’s renewable energy capacity, marking a key milestone in the modernization of the province’s energy network.
A Landmark for the Côte-Nord Region
Located in an area with exceptional wind potential, Apuiat reflects the commitment to local and sustainable energy production while creating lasting economic benefits for the region.
An Exemplary Indigenous Partnership
- An Unprecedented Collaboration Between the Innu Nation and Boralex : Initiated by the Innu Nation, Apuiat is the result of a 50-50 partnership between Innu communities and Boralex. This ambitious project overcame numerous political and technical challenges before becoming a reality.
- A Sustainable Co-Development Model : Thanks to the dedication, agility, and collaboration of the teams involved, Apuiat now stands as a model of sustainable co-development and a source of collective pride.
Tangible Economic and Social Benefits
The Apuiat Wind Project delivers real and measurable value for local communities:
- 50% of revenues will be distributed to Innu partners
- $1M in annual royalties over 30 years, shared between Uashat mak Mani-utenam and Port-Cartier
- $19M in contracts awarded to Innu businesses
- $13.8M in wages paid to Innu workers
- 11 permanent local jobs created
- 3 Innu technicians hired following the wind turbine maintenance training program
These figures highlight Apuiat’s contribution to an inclusive and sustainable energy transition that benefits all.
Valuable Learnings for the Energy Transition
These lessons — both technical and human — will strengthen our ability to deliver future projects with precision and purpose, while consolidating our position as a trusted partner to local communities.
A New Milestone in Boralex’s North American Growth
The commissioning of Apuiat also marks a strategic milestone in Boralex’s growth in North America. It is our first commissioning since 2019, with several more to come by the end of the year:
- Tilbury Battery Storage Project — our first battery site in North America
- Hagersville Battery Storage Park — recently awarded by CanREA and soon to become Canada’s largest battery park
Altogether, 560 MW will soon be added to our assets. At Boralex, we often talk about growth — today, we are experiencing it firsthand. These achievements are the result of our discipline, commitment, and team spirit.
