Reliability and Performance
Ground-mounted solar farms are large-scale land-based systems that stretch across multiple acres. We harness solar power by installing photovoltaic panels on unused, unproductive or other types of land that can accommodate this type of facility. Solar energy is a reliable, efficient and proven solution that is one of the pillars of the global energy transition and firmly embedded in our corporate strategy here at Boralex.
When you opt to host a solar farm, you’ll be adding value to your land, stepping up to become a proactive player in the local green energy movement and embracing the principles of conscientious socioeconomic development.
What are the benefits of ground-mounted solar PV panels?

Developing a Solar Farm with Boralex

01.
Analyzing your needs
Would you like to know if a piece of land you own is suitable for solar panel installation? Our teams are here to answer your questions. We will carry out a detailed assessment of the characteristics of your property and review your needs so that, together, we can find a solution that works today and over the long term.
02.
Developing a bespoke project
We built our first solar power facility in 2011, in France, which means our first solar farms are now over a decade old. We have been providing regular maintenance services ever since, carefully monitoring their technical performance and environmental impact. Our teams have learned a great deal from this experience, as they have developed their own expertise and the technology has become more powerful. We can tap into these insights and know-how to design, build and operate a modular and scalable solar farm solution tailored to the unique specifications of your property.

03.
Accelerating the energy transition
Every day, we work with communities, businesses, farmers and landowners, all of whom share something in common: they are part of the worldwide energy transition. We are steadfast in our commitment to meeting their needs, specifically by:
- Adapting proactively to climate change
- Enhancing the value of land and buildings
- Diversifying income streams
- Providing them with competitively priced, 100% renewable energy
04.
Respecting our people, our planet and our communities
Our pledge to delivering innovative people-, planet- and community-friendly solutions is part of our DNA. In some of the solar farms we operate, we encourage eco-pastoralism — that is, livestock grazing — which maintains the site’s vegetation naturally.
Working with suppliers that share our values is essential to completing projects successfully. Our expectations for suppliers are defined in our Sustainable Procurement Charter, which is built around five key principles: respecting fundamental rights, respecting and protecting the environment and biodiversity, behaving ethically and with integrity, protecting the health and safety of employees, and promoting local development.

Ground-Mounted Solar Farm FAQs
-
We design, build and operate all our renewable energy power plants. In other words, we take care of everything and serve as your single point of contact throughout the entire project life cycle.
The development process begins with a feasibility study that identifies and analyzes challenges, opportunities and needs. This will serve as the roadmap for the subsequent project.
These first discussions tend to be more technical in nature, but they mark the beginning of a good neighbourly relationship with all local stakeholders (nearby residents, local politicians, landowners, associations, etc.) to be closely attuned to their thoughts, expectations and concerns.
-
In France, 95% of the components of solar photovoltaic panels are given a second life, according to Soren (formerly PV Cycle, a non-profit, developer-funded eco-organization). The site of a decommissioned solar farm can be restored to its natural state or repurposed to meet new needs.

Here are just a few:
- Economic spinoffs for communities and landowners
- A new purpose for unused or unproductive land
- Eco- and biodiversity-friendly initiatives
- Proactive pathway to address climate change and usher in the energy transition -
We monitor all our renewable energy generating facilities 24/7 through our remote surveillance centre. We have set up several tracking tools and real-time alert escalation when the system is down or malfunctioning. Because our maintenance centres are handy to our facilities, we can usually be on site within two to three hours, as required. Our teams also oversee preventive and corrective maintenance throughout the useful life cycle. They perform regular checks on the status of modules, inverters and transformers, and the overall facilities.
